Ynot's e-commerce strategy

Ynot's e-commerce strategy is beginning to come into focus, shop.mattel website is now presenting visitors with the following message.

We will continue to help you find the perfect toys and baby gear at your preferred retailer, but will no longer offer direct sales through our sites.

The new e-commerce strategy seems to be "SHUT IT ALL DOWN!"

To think about it, its the right strategy for Mattel; they need to focus on the core products, core customers and core markets; Mattel internal e-commerce is just a distraction! Kudos to the CEO for taking a bold call!

This is wonderful news! General ecommerce is such a silly idea for a company that has so many online and offline partners. If you want a new saw, you go to homedepot.com, not Nikita.com. If you want a new hair dryer, you go to Amazon.com or Target.com, not Conair.com. People browse a branded site, then go shop someplace else. Bravo Ynon!

Our sites are changing. Use your promo codes by August 16th!

Dear Valued Customer,

The Mattel websites — Barbie.com, HotWheels.com, Fisher-Price.com, and MattelShop.com — are evolving and shifting to enhanced product catalogs and brand destination sites starting August 17th, 2018. We will continue to help you find the perfect toys and baby gear at your preferred retailer, but will no longer offer direct sales through our sites. (NOTE: Hot Wheels® Collectors and Barbie® Signature* will not be impacted by this change.)

You have until August 16th 2018, to use any outstanding promo codes or offers** for any final purchases before we shift our site experience.

If you have unused Mattel gift cards, they can still be redeemed on Hot Wheels® Collectors and Barbie® Signature items* after August 16th, 2018. Should you prefer a refund on your remaining balance, please contact Customer Service.

These sites and email newsletters will continue to be your #1 source for Mattel product information and gift ideas, with the most enhanced and detailed catalog anywhere, as well as the latest news, events and info for your favorite brands.

For questions and more info, please Contact Customer Service.

Thank you for being a part of the Mattel family.

Sincerely,

The Mattel Web Team

Moving away from e-commerce in the summer of 2018, just the kind of bold, disruptive move I've come to expect from our maverick CEO. When the competition ziggs, we zagg! Onward!
