Thread regarding Saudi Aramco layoffs

Slow trickle of layoffs

A few in layoffs trickling in still, power systems and some finance.... I guess trying not call attention to it. Seems, ARAMCO still not recovering. I am sure someone will debate this with unjustified enthusiasm.

Nope, MOI did not reference is as "proof' of expats in Saudi Aramco. You did. Own it.

Magic might be the only way to save this place. Some fairy dust sprinkled around to magically instill a work ethic. Or perhaps some elves to stop cousins from marrying.

A dragon to enforce traffic rules.

Just saying there's a lot to fix and no easy button.

The "magical kingdom" concept just got smoked.

Whatever was magical about Saudi Aramco and made it a good place to live and work got saudized and now it reflects the rest of the kingdom.

Which is why you recruit based on what saudi aramco used to be but everyone you manage to recruit packs and leaves in an accelerating shorter period.

Afraid KSA owns MOI stats related to the magical loving kingdom. The stats don't match the image. Seems to be a consistant pattern.

Numbers in the Kingdom are easy to understand, You cannot relate time in Kingdom by all expats as being the same as time expats in Saudi Aramco spend in Kingdom. Two different data sets, especially when you group the unskilled laborer category. How many direct hire expat unskilled laborer category do Saudi Aramco hire? Its your hyperlink. Own it.

2 years in saudi arabia can certainly seem like decades. Its very magical when time slows as soon as the pilot hits the parking break.

All expats: 6.9 years

Unskilled expats: 7.7 years. 85% of expats fall under the unskilled category.

Whats that mean? Average stay of a skilled expatriate in saudi arabia is 2.4 years.

The numbers speak for themselves and though you may hire expats in droves i will say again i have never seen turnover rates as high as i did in saudi aramco.

Numbers are confusing in the magic kingdom.

http://www.riyadhconnect.com/mol-studies-proposal-to-limit-expat-stay-in-saudi/

Average stay: 6.8 years

That isn't "decades" and that was before all the families were driven out.

That doesn’t make any sense. Why would anyone go down the center of the highway when it is much faster to fly down the left hard shoulder in the narrow space between wing mirrors of cars obeying the speed limit and the industrial strength guard rails at 200 kph?

Of course it is. That is why you have so much saudi branded fun to offer. All that fun out there must explain why howling saudi families (who live out in the magic kingdom) mingle around the aramco family camps all weekend leaving litter and stinkwater floods behind them for someone else to clean up. Because the rest of the kingdom is a magical paradise. Now wake up and pull your head out before you smother yourself.

Saudi is the land of love, the real Magic Kingdom, thats why expats stay for decades. They love it. Disney and 6 Flags are like the news coming out of their country of origin...fake. Ask the White House, they will tell you.

6 Flags and Disney are American brands sport. Everybody loves them.

You didnt mention anything saudi to love? Isn't there anything that comes to mind? Me either. I cant think of anything at all and I shudder at the thought of explaining the concept behind a Large Shapeless Layla doll who comes with no accessaries because she can't cook, clean, drive, or leave the mansion without the Abdullah doll's permission although I'd probably buy Nanny doll with the ninja wall scaling escape package (sold separately) or Crash Test Driver Doll (with Abdullah's constant honking horn flashing headlights beat up corolla - also sold separately) just for the laughs.

We leave the marketing to the White House, they absolutely love all things Saudi. Even Four Flags and Disney loves the place...

I don't have a grudge either. We just packed and left. No layoff, no bad PMP, just tired of living in a place that defies logic in a rapidly deteriorating community.

Also, I just didn't want to drink your Koolaid anymore.

Unfortunately for you I'm going to personally see that your Koolaid stays off this site. This is an American site. You want to market your broke-@$$ dump, you'll have to market it somewhere else, like maybe where your marketing is welcome. Nothing personal, just business.

Newsflash: many of us aren’t laid off, or are in jeopardy of being so.

I’m sure it would be easy enough to assume that we all are ex-employees with an axe to grind though. It isn’t a grudge or bias that’s fueling the comments you’re seeing, but rather a candid and honest assessment.

If you count yourself as one of the loyal expats working here, can you really sit there and honestly say that how this place is managed adheres to any norm or acceptable standard you’ve seen elsewhere?

The frustration comes from trying to make something better here, to only be left wanting to beat your head into the wall from dealing with the massive amounts of incompetency in doing so.

Is this how you guys need to operate to help you sleep. Therapy online. No one takes you seriously because you clearly have a grudge. Most of got you got layed off because were not adding any value. I seen the expats that were canned and they deserved it. The hard working ones with the right attitude are valued and appreciated. You are just a bumch of bitter disgruntled ex-employees with a vengeance. No one is buying

The fact that you call it a “gravy train” is insulting.

Do you ever stop and wonder why a Saudi led company would want to pay me more than you? It’s because I sold my home, my cars, uprooted my children from their schools and friends, and my wife left work all so we could come to Saudi Arabia and help YOUR company. It’s also because I posses skills you don’t have and still don’t. #finance.

You call it a gravy train, I beg to differ, so do my wife and children.

The truth of it all is your company would be much less corrupt (VP using company jet to buy furniture for his home), much more efficient, and a lot more profitable if you stepped out of the way and let the adults take over.

It’s ok though, I’m just here for the “gravy train” and while I’m here, I’ll continue to watch the death spiral.

It’s not an insult, it’s just reality.

The past is the past. Saudization is the new norm where the aim is to depend more on locals and less on expats. That is a fact of life. There is no need to insult Saudis just because the gravy train is coming to an end. If you must exit then do so graciously without attacking everything Saudi. No company is perfect and no culture either. So take the good and overlook the bad.

You can label it as being ungrateful but that’s a bit of a stretch.

The reality is that many from the land of “freedom” gave that away to come here and help this company along when the local population lacked the expertise or willingness to do it themselves.

Those days are gradually changing though, and that’s great. However, when you invite people into your home then start degrading them, or begin reneging on pay & benefits that you signed a contract for, then what does that make you?

There’s a word for it: dishonorable.

Honestly, things were so much better in the past. There wasn’t so much of this expat vs. local sentiment that seems to be so prevalent now. That’s what keeps me going at this point...I remember how it was, when we all thought of each other as employees and co-workers. I can’t tell you how many Eid’s I’ve been invited to, and how many Saudis have joined me for Christmas.

That’s what keeps me going.

To those that think this is a competition, I hope you will begin to wake up and realize you’re only competing with yourself.

The reality is that there is not much difference between PMP and the old system. Both are equally subjective and ratings are given at the whims of management. The differences are forced ranking now and the benefit that raters can hide behind an Excel spreadsheet and deflect some blame.

It's what passes as natural in a country where the most cost efficient business model is stop paying wages, report the unpaid employee as "escaped", then having him put in prison, fined, and deported for not renewing the resident card or getting the permission to exit the country that the company was responsible for doing.

Yes, all is normal! Get your head out of the sand. The propoganda machine here is really something to see. How about peace mission in Yemen. Arab summit wraps up and a new generation of rental van terrorists are born.

Seems like Aramco has a lot of underperformers recently? Good Governance?

Gov't needs to fine those driving with number detached to increase revenue.....

Someone needs to look up the definition of attrition in any dictionary. Attrition does not involve surplus or layoff. Expats are being cut. Supposedly either M performers or anyone who has ever filed a grievance. The sad part about the M people is that it is a result of forced ranking coupled by the fact that one specific category of employee cannot be given an M. Attrition is people retiring or quitting of their own accord. Certainly many older expats are leaving. Many more are being laid off.
