I wouldn’t expect much — much good, anyway — from Zuckerberg on the poverty front, either. After all, Facebook is spreading poverty among American STEM workers by pushing Congress for more H1C visas for foreign workers hired by big tech companies to replace better-paid Americans. Odds are that, here too, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative’s approach will be similar to the Gateses.
1feh: There's nothing wrong with spending a million dollars in Newark. But if you want to make a difference you don't ever give money to schools--they just waste it on paying union attorneys to bargain over more benefits and higher salaries! If you want change you buy politicians who can actually deliver. Christie would be a good bet. He's already governor, AND he just may have a shot at the presidency--because the rest of the field is making him look reasonable!

No.... What Zuck is doing is not "charity" because he wants to retain control of the money. A "gift" is not truly a gift if one does not give up control. It's a legal concept called "donative intent." Perhaps Zuck's lawyers weren't paying attention in property class that day....
Zuck spent $100 million in Newark, NJ and had no measurable impact upon the education system. Will he learn from this? Probably not.

What the article says in a nutshell : what Zuck is doing is not charity because he is sponsoring H1B visas. Corollary of that : the author is a cry baby and a hypocrite because he himself is buying from Walmart and subsidizing the Chinese so that he can save a bigger part of his measly pay check.
