Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

More layoffs

Lumen, today 1/7/25, RIF'd approximately 20% of its Customer Success Organization, as well as made cuts in almost every group. This includes Sales and engineering. This after a stock by back program. I think they are trying to clean up the balance sheet in order to merge or be bought outright by another company. My money is still on Microsoft. The senior leadership team is rife with former Microsoft employees.

I worked there (US West, Qwest, CenturyLink, Lumen) for over 24 years and left on my own terms back in April of 2024. This was the best move I ever made. I now work for a company who cares about their employees. I feel for all my old peers that are still there. You guys really need to get out and test the waters. There is life after this poorly run company.

Does anyone know how many were impacted? Not seeing WARN notice filings.

I worked for Centurylink/Lumen for almost 20 years. I worked in many roles including sales and CS and left because I was severely underpaid, overworked and unheard. My direct management/directors were wonderful, but the higher up the chain, the more disconnected it became. When CS was first launched, it was 100% a great thing.. focus on retention and non sales activities to keep the clients happy and upsell as well. Most did well, customers were happy, we worked well on upsells, handed off new sales to Account Managers and it worked. Then someone got this not so bright idea that CS should ALSO start selling and forced the most ridiculous training on everyone. It was months and months long training that wasted SO much time and rumor has it cost the company a LOT of $$. All that time we were forced to spend on that we could have been focused on sales, but it was mandatory. And the comment above me I agree, execs focus so much on their silly carpool karaoke skits than paying attention to those who have the intel on how to succeed, so sad. I am so happy I made the choice to leave a few years ago and found a company that strives to be the opposite of companies like Lumen. I am sad for those who were RIF'd as I am sure I know some.

They have been doing smaller layoffs in 2024. Between demotions, talent quitting and layoffs in every department ... I wonder how many people we've lost total.
They are doing bite-sized layoffs so they don't have to announce it on the news. So sad.

Agree .... Execs are tone-deaf.

good people were let go last October, last Winter, and last Spring. Kate and her crew really don't care, as long as their pockets are lined

A bunch of good people were let go today. Executive Sales management focuses so much on the "Carpool Karaoke" skits each week as well as tone-deaf walks on their million-dollar real-estate beach front that they completely lose track of the work being done in the trenches. A dose of humble pie would go a long way to the two executives in charge of sales.
