Thread regarding Heald College layoffs

Highly paid Admissions staff just hanging out on all the campuses?

Makes you wonder if any of us are getting paid. If Heald were going to stay open and with all the financial mess they are in, you would think they would furlough Admissions until they can enroll again. Maybe they aren't going to make payroll in general, so they don't care that they have no job at the moment. The joke is on us! I hope not, but...

Certainly hope that no Admissions staff are helping any other offices, especially FA and CS, because that is a direct violation of federal regs. If you are helping those offices, I would stop now, otherwise you're just making the case stronger for shutdown.

@869. No. We didn't get that message but everyday that goes on and there is no change, is not a good sign. Maybe some us are in denial, maybe some of us are waiting to get our papers, maybe some of us will be asked to work in the departments that people allready left in which will buy us additional time to look for a job.

But thanks for that update because it wasn't told to us.

You do realize that admissions has been told to expect their walking papers by Friday, right?

@765-thanks. I think most of us right now are looking for a plan b but we are still trying to be hopefull that a miracle will happen at this point but it's been really difficult. We are expected to hear another update this Friday no later then Monday.

Our CP and DOA are trying to keep our spirits up but they know we sre struggling to keep positive. We were told to keep our families and ourselves in best interest, in other words, start looking for a job!

@747, this is what was told to me when I asked why they weren't let go once we were told we could no longer enroll. It makes no sense to me but that's the line of crap I was given to swallow and not question.

People in ALL departments did horrible things that led to the situation Heald is in now, but NOT EVERYBODY did these things. Staff and instructors alike are in this predicament. Don't think your department is better than the rest (this is where I would say something assholish about Admissions and Career Services but, honestly, what's the point at this stage in the game?)

I don't mean to call you a hypocrite, but how is it that you still have a job if you didn't pass students for showing up, giving them second third, and fourth chances to turn in plagiarized papers, or give full marks for work turned in on the last day of class?

I don't want to be an asshole..., nah, I'm gonna be an asshole. I guess you f***ers aren't hating on teachers now, are you? The non-teachers are responsible for pissing off the DOE, so I guess there's some justice if the teachers are the ones to lock the doors behind us when we're finished teaching out.

@759 I'm glad they're giving you guys some things to do--I wish my campus did the same. I hope in your free time you're at least looking for some other employment opportunities because I do not see this going well for a lot of advisors. If things get better for Heald then no harm, no foul. But if the AG, DOE, BPPE, etc don't let up, then at least you got your resume out there. Finding a new job can take a long time and you have to take care of yourself.

Some of us Admissions advisors took the week off on vacation, some of us are helping other departments reach out to students, some departments had some of their people gone and admissions are doing their jobs and some of us are training..I dont know whats going on at your campus, but at our campus they are putting us to work. They making sure we are doing something. I don't know what happened in other departments, but we are substituting in the mean time.

haha the Admissions Advisors at our campus aren't doing anything at all! I think they were told to stay in their department because they were playing around all over the campus until today. Useless.

"I was told....." bzzt. All employees in California are hired at will, and can be let go with or without cause.

I was told that legally they can't be laid off or let go, it's like they are a protected class! I can tell you that for those of us that are having to work for our checks this is doing norhing for moral, it's creating even more division that what existed before the halt.

688 & 686 Thanks Admissions staff for the laugh! But CCi is a business and paying your salaries to hand out in empty classrooms, takes walks around the building and be useless in general proves my point. They don't give a shit of you are here, you probably won't see a dime. Probably never with that stain on your job history. Luckily CA has a generous welfare system and maybe some scam school will come recruit you from the homeless shelter to be "Technician" for 70K!

Or maybe the new owner wants admissions to hang around until a deal I'd worked with department of education

The admissions people are coming into classes and beginning to learn about the teachers and the classes. The more they know, the more they can tell new students (if/when we enroll) about the programs and what they can expect.
