When people are laid off due to age discrimination, they usually go quietly and don't sue.
And even when they sue, they rarely win in court.
It's too bad no one takes age discrimination as seriously as racial discrimination.
Yes I know of 2 people in IT who were hired back to GM into other IT positions within weeks of being terminated. Both were in early forties. Sweet deal for them, severance pay, a vacation, and re-employment.
I have heard from 3-4 sources inside GM that they are hiring back some of the younger workers that they fired last month. The speculation is that this was a clever way around being acused of age discrimination. Fire a mix of older and younger employees and rehire the younger ones back
I have posted to a few jobs on GMcareers. I have the impression that as soon my previous GM employment is noted the rejection response is triggered.

How far did you get before getting turned down? When you typed in your Old GMIN on the application? or after a phone interview , etc.?
Same for me. By the HR and the EGM (not my group) who escorted me out to the gate
However I have been turned down by all the positions that I have applied for on GM site
