Sorry to hear how you were treated, it should never happen! To the comments about how people are dressed, that's clear cut discrimination. The company is on the racial bandwagon now due to heightened racial tension in the country. It is nothing new. My store manager would request for certain candidates not to be hired without giving us a chance to interview them, even if we did find them acceptable candidates it didn't matter. All the manager did was walk passed them. Candidates were judged by appearance. Cute was hirable but does not spell great candidate. Questions were sometimes asked as to why.
Experience of having 15+ years with an excellent work performance in a large door. After begging for a promotion for years. The younger white female was promoted after a few weeks as a new hire. A kick in the heart.

As a black assistant buyer I was never invited to vendor dinners, yet the interns did their second week there. I didn't even know my vendor asked for me to be there until I saw her during a buy session. When I asked my boss (10+ years at M), I got gaslit. My head buyer would say random unwarranted statements like "I would NEVER wear a headwrap to work, it's unprofessional" in earshot of the Muslim Fin. Planner and some OMAs who would wear their hair out of their face. The microaggressions are real.

Ya know after reading this. I have to agree. I do notice the blacks in my store got more of a work load then others. I had a sales manager who was black complain about this. She then got into a fight with a white customer and called the customer racist. Next thing you know that sales manager is gone. . 2nd. My new store manager was black. She worked all thru shut down. Then ended up laying off 2/3 Of the store thru Covid layoffs. A week later. She was let go for unknown reasons. M is about their image not the dirty behind scenes back handed c-ap they do to their employees.

This seems so familiar. As a matter of fact Macy’s is well known for doing this to their black employees. There are very little opportunities past associate level for black employees. A white employee who is less experience always gets the promotion. Management always uses the excuse that you should have built more relationships when it reality you as a black individual didn’t fit the image they wanted to promote. They continue to push this black lives matter agenda, when it reality what continues to happen is they cancel or push back the race discrimination meetings. Macy’s is being insincere with their racial views and they are just as guilty as this Dillard’s article on being racist. Blacks people at Macy’s continue to have to jump through hoops, entertain, and stroke their manager’s ego in order to just get noticed but not promoted.

Yes, it can hurt especially when the work you do is considered "outstanding" but you as an individual are not based on race, disability, s-x, etc....INTERSECTIONALITY at work. For the thousands at home suffering sleepless nights as to why you were not called back after the furlough or let go for no reason, You put off so much precious time with family, friends, self-care for your job. It will be ok as you pull yourselves together. It will be difficult, not promises of easy times, but it will pass. If you ever look back just to take a glimpse from whither you came, see it as lessons learned that only made you stronger. Stop blaming yourselves because it is not you that created such awful experiences but that is how the system was originally designed. The goal is working towards getting over the obstacles created by the system. You can do it!!!
