Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

They know they made a mistake with Macy’s Tech.

Despite what our CTO has said, a large percentage of transfers have NOT been offered. Even fewer have accepted the offer. Mainly directors are going, who don’t actually do any of the work! Good luck with that.
Rumor has it they are scrambling and offering employees work from home opportunities through August, and beyond. These workers were supposed to be done soon.
Naveen has made his bed, Now he gets to lay in it. Can’t wait to read how poorly this turns out for Macy’s.

#cool: First of all so sorry to know that you are impacted and sorry to know ghat the exit / severance payout has not been smooth - I know how frustrating it can be on such a difficult transition time.

Just to understand - The initial deal was:
(1) those that were ‘laid off’ need not come to office from Feb 4th and will get paid until April end PLUS a severance of No. Of years of service > No. Of weeks of pay.

(2) A select others will be given an option to relocate to ATL with all expenses paid

(3) and if they are not ready due to school etc, they will be provided work from home in SF until August.

So what is the deviation that you are seeing from the original deal?

Are there salary negotiations?
Are they not honoring (1), (2) or (3)? What is the actual concern?

Macy,s has turned cold hearted. Everything has been screwed up across the board. HR wasn't prepared, some employees still don't have letters defining there severance and Macy's is just saying we will work with you.... They are asking people to stay until August now ,because they screwed up everything with these layoffs, but no incentive, no money at all. Macy's just thinks people should be grateful to have there paycheck until August. News flash Macy's there are other jobs out there! So far I have heard that the majority of people are saying no thank you! Macy's appears to have had no plan in place. The way things have being handled they just decided one day out of the blue to layoff all of these hard working dedicated associate one day and didn't put any thought into how it would affect business. Apparently contractors will save the world! Funny thing is the CTO Naveen did similar things at Home Depot and as soon as he was fired they began reversing all of his decisions and bringing things back in house.

Apparently CEO Jeff Ganette is clueless and just letting his CTO run rampant regardless of how ridiculous the plan is or how incredibly inept he is! Macy's is trying to paint this picture as cost savings to the investors but they are hiding allot of things behind the curtain in the dark spaces where no one goes. That's probably why they are rushing things at a feverish pace. Quick look over here at these pretty numbers while we hide things over here and do our dirty work.

Shame on you Macy's the store that has called itself the great American department store for many years and is now in route to send up to 70% of business to contractors and a large majority of that in India. You laid off thousands of American workers, many with 15,20,30,40 years of experience, so that you could just turn around and pay the contractor companies probably the same or even more money. Now the only question is how long before we hear welcome to the first annual Amazon Thanksgiving Day Parade? #COOL

"They have offered a handful of employees who declined a relo to work through August. This could either be work from home, or if the physical location is still there they could come to the office" - So basically they gave these folks 6 extra months to look for a job in the Bay Area :)

They have offered a handful of employees who declined a relo to work through August. This could either be work from home, or if the physical location is still there they could come to the office.

There were over 800 layoffs in SFO, 160 in Lorain, and many in JC and Mason but hardly Any of these people were offered relocation, and even fewer are being offered to work through August. It may be as small at 5%.

Can someone clarify? So they laid of 830 employees... but they are making many of them work remotely until August?

How does that work for Employees with H1Bs? They are supposed to always work from the ‘work location’ where the LCA was filed

I agree Naveen is not the worst leader at Macy's. Having a great CTO now won't save Macy's since it needs a much better CEO to begin with.

Naveen is pretty terrible though. It's his first CTO gig. He's pretty close minded, tripping on the newfound pyrrhic power. Maybe he'll learn to become a better CTO after this experience. In the meantime, those of you who are still at Macy's, especially Macy's Tech, have fun working under an under average CTO learning his ropes and making rookie mistakes. Good luck!

I bet with the new tech location in Midtown Atlanta close to the NCR headquarters that Naveen has a half a$$ solution that’s costs more $ than they currently spend. Just like they did with field services- subcontract out, spend more, have poorer results. Brilliant Macy’s!

There is no virtually one left to manage any store systems. POS, gift cards, clientelling, payment authorization, self checkout, registry, and many many more are GONE. This includes both Support and dev teams. They are all gone. The contractors are being forced to ATL due to visas but they can’t do anything without FTE direction.

we are over it. are you? then stop policing the forum. we're also tired of hearing about stores, but we're not rude on those posts. stores have long been falling behind in profit for macys

You guys need to get over it!!! You are all over paid that is why you are gone. Spend time looking for jobs now that you have time on your hands. We are all sick of reading your posts about the CTO. There are many incompetent leaders at Macy's. The CTO is not the worst one out there.

he always had a reckless attitude about SF engineers. "what's so special about them? we're all engineers!" well, guess what... anyone can be hired off the street as engineer by cronies like him. doesn't mean they're actually engineers. so now macy's tech is left with a bunch of shells, so-called "engineers" and an even bigger waste of money! a fellow Indian once told me this about the 3 contracting firms Naveen wanted to use: for every 10 contractors put on a project, only 1 of them knows how to do something. the other 9 are just bodies. thanks for boosting the Indian economy. I bet a lot of kids in the US would love to get paid for nothing.
