Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

Waiting

I am wondering why everyone is on the edge of their seats freaking out just waiting to be cut...has it not sunk in that there will come a day that everyone at some point will no longer work there? Whether you choose to quit, retire, get terminated ,eoi , we get sold whatever the case may be there will be a day in your life where guess what you won't work for COP. Is it the best thing no we make lots of money doing what we do when people in other areas doing similar jobs do it for less so of course we want to keep that paycheck but its not the end of the world. Things that are worth crying over : death , cancer, child abuse. If these things are not happening to you between now and the time you leave well then you had a good run .

@IaqbUUL-4mis "if you don't like America.."

You are strawmanning my position. I care about the country and want to help fix the problems. First one must identify a problem before it can be addressed.

Also, Baby Boomers won't remain the largest voting bloc forever. There is hope.

#IaqbU-4jxi if you don't like America, Priceline.com has your answer...a one way ticket out of America! Just leave. If you work for COP and hate corporate America, it's simple, quit COP. By the way, I'm not. Baby boomer....

@IaqbUUL-1nes "Well if Bernie was president, young people would 'feel the burn (bern)' of paying more or higher taxes so that the people who feel like they are 'entitled' get to do nothing"

That line of thinking ignores the successes of countries that have done it right and enjoy a better quality of life than most working class Americans. And meanwhile, corporate-run America is tail-spinning into oligarchy and poverty for the masses. There's a disproportionate fear of people cheating the system if there is a safety net, disregarding the potential for massive net improvements for society. Reckless pro-corporate policies are harming the American quality of life far more than any realistic number of illegal immigrants or street bums may try to get away with.

One of the most serious problems with this country is that the biggest voting bloc, Baby Boomers, is mostly informed by corporate media (Fox News, CNN, NYT, WSJ, WaPo, etc.). Their voting patterns are in effect controlled by the entertainment/propaganda wing of corporate America. Most Boomers are too addicted to the messaging of entertainment personalities to vote outside this spectrum of thought.

Amazing ... how do you function when you continually group your coworkers into categories based on their demographic? Do you use gender and race too?

If young people aren't motivate to be a good employee then they can quit and let those who do want to try to help the company recovery to stay. There are a lot of people who are hard working who deserve to stay!

@IaqbUUL-1yiv - What possible motivation to loyalty would young people have toward the company after seeing how they throw away older employees? You may think they're lazy, but they aren't stupid.

Its really simple - reward people that perform. The rest of the comments on this thread show all the reasons why ConocoPhillips does not perform.

Well if Bernie was president, young people would 'feel the burn (bern)' of paying more or higher taxes so that the people who feel like they are 'entitled' get to do nothing. Wonder how long the young ones would keep working if they only get 10% of their earnings just to pay for those that Bernie wants to support???

Those who are 50+ have most likely worked all their lives to help build a company only to be thrown away as if they are not worth anything in order to make room for younger people who are not going to be loyal to the company and often cheat the company on a daily basis as if they too are entitled to a big paycheck without actually putting in much effort or years of service. There are elderly in the community (nothing like the recent leaders of the company) who worked many years, saved and invested so they can be self-sufficient. They have stock, but they now have to rearrange their finances because the dividend they used to get and were counting on is basically nothing. The younger people (and some others) who won't work a full day are cheating the company and the stockholders because they aren't doing everything possible to make the company be successful.....they are hurting many elderly. It is a sad thing to see what is going on in the company and the attitudes. Prayers with those who have devoted their lives to the company and who work hard....don't be afraid.....COP is NOT your provider!

Work till you die. Support the life style of the rich and famous. Sanders made some good points, but will never be President

Stay active, don't stay home and drink beer all day. Certain stoke in your future. Caymans? That's for folks like Mulva. No income tax

You're absolutely right about there being worse things. That fact doesn't make it any easier day to day though. It's been going on for 18 months now and the anxiety never ends. I'm not saying that those of us still there don't see the writing on the wall. But when you've been with a company for 30 years you've seen the industry cycles. How do you know if this is the end or if this is just another downturn you're praying you survive for the last few years you need to retire? Too young to retire - too old to be hired somewhere else and start over.
