I've seen a handful of LinkedIn posts from recently hired O2s being laid off. Is this really what it has come to? 3M is so desperate to cut cost that now they're getting rid of young bright talent that is supposed to be part of the future of the company? Great stuff, MR, MP, Tireman!

For a minute I thought they were closing the O2 arena…. Phew!
But what about jayshree gluten free muffins? Isnt that science applied to life?
Not only O2s being laid off. A lot of black belts and lean six sigma experts also beeing laid off. All the former celebrated "high potentials". At 3M Science. Not applied to life anymore.
Really ? All black belts I know were average / mediocre technical folks at the bench and joined " sick sigma" to get the quick and easy promotions. Why waste time working at the bench, better make animated power point slides !
High potential ...NOT
Not that we are hiring but good luck trying to get new engineering talent out to the middle of nowhere Midwest plants..O2 program really helped drive/force new grads to these middle of nowhere places where people wouldn’t go willingly without the program
Jayshree will bake #glutenfree muffins for them! ;-)

"Optimized Operations", entry level program for supply chain, EHS, engineering. Has existed in some form for decades. Typically places college graduates into factories with some at the center.
Hahaha, loved the comment on jayshree. She’s too busy clamoring into the next film festival where her little bit of science knowledge will come in handy. Chief self promotion officer!
What’s O2?
"O2s were absorbed into the plants becoming engineers. At least most of them were."
I know several O2s and this is absolutely untrue.
They originally were but now that layoffs are happening they are cutting all the O2's they can. If they cut these young kids they can cut the older higher paid people without getting another age discrimination lawsuit. Unethical to the max...

The laying off so many O2s is terrible. These kids have barely enough experience to jump into another role and had to relocate to places where the industry is just 3M. Uprooting to Guin and then getting laid off with a couple weeks severance is a joke.
Don’t worry, jayshree will save the day on LinkedIn.
