Thread regarding Mattel Inc. layoffs

California has 7th lowest ranking in the Union, as it relates to #suicide, with 10.7 suicides per 100K inhabitants (annual numbers). Source below...

Population: 38.8 million (2014) for California. 10.02 million (2013) for LA County. So, for LA county approximately 3 suicides a day: ((10020000/100000)*10.7)/365=3

For California, it'd be about 11 suicides a day (or ((38800000/100000))*10.7)/365=11.3)

Since most our news is distributed locally, let's look at the LA basin. 21 person dies from suicide every week, a bit under 100 people die from suicide in LA every month. I have difficult time remembering seeing any news about any suicide every. I am not sure if this is by design or whatever, but the fact is, suicides are rampant but poorly covered by the media.

to the poster that claims there are 40+ suicides a day in California, that's 14,600 a year if we stayed at 40 a day. Is the west coast that depressing? I would think the lower cost of avocados alone would make people happier.

You guys need to be careful what you write on this topic. Look at the privacy policy, they (layoffs.com) reserve the right to disclose your IP address if they feel that a person or property is in danger. So, if you say that you wish that xyz dies (suicide), in my book, that puts you in that 'lets disclose this ip address' category...

Just my two very modest cents

Old timers may remember Kevin W. When the bean counters took over Kevin was laid off. Kevin's whole career had been at Mattel. He loved working there. His father had been in upper management and Kevin had grown up around it. He bled for the place. He was despondent after being let go, and ended up taking his own life. He was a good man who didn't deserve that. Let's hope no one else ends up in the same place.

let's talk about harm, when you lay a person off from a job it is not some small act it is a life threatening act for some, and the anger is justified. However, no matter how bad it gets here at Mattel wishing people would commit suicide or die, is also not justified.

we are all more than what we do to make money. the problem right now is that Mattel management have lost there souls and have forgotten there is more to life then money.

Greed - corruption -and lack of creative solutions...good job Mattel management team may you find your way back to your happy place and may you find love again!

It's true. the west coast is a depressing sh--hole. Shame it wasn't one of the upper mgmt. at mattel.
