Thread regarding PepsiCo Inc. (Pepsi) layoffs

Tone Deaf S&T Townhall

I want to share my candid feedback regarding today's Townhall meeting for the S&T department. Unfortunately, what transpired left me feeling disheartened and disconnected from Athena and the senior leadership. No mention of Vikram or the head of IT was very disturbing!

Also, Instead of addressing pressing concerns about potential layoffs and the overall uncertainty, the tone of the meeting was, to put it mildly, tone-deaf. Athena's focus on sports was out of touch with the reality most of us are facing.

The overarching message seemed to be one of forced enthusiasm for the "new S&T" while leaving us with a lingering sense of apprehension until March. It's disheartening when the genuine concerns of employees are overshadowed by rhetoric that fails to acknowledge the challenges we're collectively navigating.

In essence, today's Townhall felt like Athena saying “welcome to the new S&T and the start of the hunger games! See you in March if you survive!”

It's staggering how Athina remains blissfully detached from reality. Her lack of experience in managing a business of global reach and engaging with a vast workforce was glaringly evident during the S&T townhall. Her direct reports were blindsided, expected to field questions for which she had neither prepared nor could offer insightful responses. Key initiatives like Digital Factory or GBS, where a significant portion of talent resides, went unmentioned. The omission of figures such as Vikram, Mattijs, or the Global Functional Leads underscores her profound disconnection and apathy towards the organization's core.

Athina relegates the concepts of digitization, technological products, and processes to the realm of IT leadership, sidelining the essence of our business—its people and the expertise within our delivery functions. Her "wait until March" stance embodies a clumsy approach that portends disaster. Ramon's dismissive attitude compounds the issue, placing blind trust in Athina while avoiding deeper involvement in S&T matters.

One can only hope that Ramon and the board are aware of these discussions. Athina's vision for the organization only serves to layer on complexity, despite her 25-direct-reports orgchart which she claims will simplify our business. This will leave BU GMs skeptical about aligning with her strategy, especially given S&T PGT's less-than-impressive performance history.

Thank you for echoing my exact feelings. After 20 years of service our CIO deserved to be acknowledged and thanked. The generosity our CEO asked us to embody apparently doesn’t apply to Athina.

Moreover, Becky asking if we have become 10 or 15k now wasn’t funny if that was the intent. It came across as careless if HR don’t know the size of this new organization.

Also, 25 direct reports because Athina prefers a flat org structure??! What happened to leading by example and HR enforcing basic rules of span of control that apply to everyone (except for Athina). The message that came across to the organization that HR are only able to enforce effective structures as long as it is not reporting into Athina.

And finally: Calling CIOs Deployment leads ? I don’t know if it is meant as an insult or a clear disconnection of the realities of the operations on the ground.

Athina comes across as quite smart but certainly unwise. She could have rallied us and created a great following but she missed!

Actually it is an Indian company as long as they are cheap labor.

qnl+1qSRTZOG yes the amazing outsourcing model from ma Indra created such mess. The analogy. It take over 8 to 10 layers to now get anything done. Then the whims and back biting of these Indian slt is just incomprehensible. No level of respect and down right racist attitudes and promoting their own agendas. If there is one thing she can do ... Get rid of this Indian substandard culture that is choking the org. This is not an Indian company. It is a global company.

From my take it was again pipe dreams on consolidation. Athena has one think clear outsource everything possible and from her track record even new centers may be outsourced India mexico. Felt it was a deja vu of mama Indra and her Indian family business. Terrible. Bottom line . Consolidate by all means. But you lost all known talent and replaced by cheap labour from India and mexico with Indians on top who know zilch but hiring their own. The org is too to heavy and it is time to skim the top triple loads into one

Should be ok, neither HR or Athena has any idea how many employees there are in the new org. Making good use of all that HR data!!!

The message I took away was “everything that is done so poorly today will all be done better in this NEW org that we’ve designed to fix everything…”. When it should have been “we are finally fixing the organization mess we’ve made over many years and that will free you up to operate better and more efficiently. “. It just felt like we are all being blame for doing the best we could with our hands tied due to the current awful operating model.

This is the norm for all of our senior leaders at any townhall. They’re either very tone deaf or just simply don’t give AF. I’d bet on the latter.
