Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

My store is closing. Announced today.

After many years here, I found out that my high volume store is closing. When I thought of the stores that could close I never thought we would be on the list. I guess this marks a big change for me, and my peers, and clearly the company that they can close a store with this volume. I feel like they should have done more to keep the customers that won’t travel to another site. We are all devastated.

All closing stores have had notice. No one came in and just locked the doors. #knowthetruth

This is crazy news. I managed out of that location for 3 years until 2017. Many good long term employees. Chantal must be devastated along with all the employees there

You will now find out what you are worth in the market place. I am $19/hr and work 45-50 hrs a week and off at 5:00pm so no complaints here (and took two weeks of searching to land). But no insurance for 90 days and no paid vacation for first year.

Yes, the regional manager (now Sr DM has been based out of that office for over 10 years of not much more. They build the store in the mid 90’s. It’s been a powerhouse store since it opened. Yes declining sales like every other store. Will never make sense that they are closing it. The regional manager must feel defeated to have their top store be told she has to close it.

BB&B is taking advantage of their instore employees. Closing stores without notice, firing full time employees with medical benefits who've been there 5-10 years and replacing them with part time workers with no medical benefits and making up Covid rules case by case as they go along.

You want to stop this? Store employees need to unionize. A union would be able to answer your questions. Also they'd be able to stand up for employees, fight for you if they are closing stores, as well as force the company to show us their Covid rules... We are all sitting ducks. I'm meeting with store employees in my area in NY and NJ to try to unionize. Look for my how to join my union posts here soon. But feel free to look online how to unionize
