Baytown Complex - Survival Tips?

Started at the site in 2015 and I’ve seen a drastic step change after 2017, things used to be fun... now I feel many are functioning if they are on eggshells.

Any tips on survival or people to avoid who can ruin a career? Initials are fine for sake of privacy.

Why does mechanical have so many FLS since there has been a drastic reduction in contract staff. Even FLS without direct reports?

Even LPS group has an SLS and FLS when LPS should be cranked back or heavily eliminated, why keep those roles?!

“Copied from another post”

In Baytown- if you speak up at all and it’s not in line with DH level and up people then you’re branded and will be until that DH is gone.
There’s a few DHs that hold grudges and will constantly influence people’s ranking even if they don’t have direct working relationship with you. Even to the point where the Dh changed divisions and still influenced a ranking that led to a PIP/termination.
This also works the opposite way, if the DH or above person likes you, that person will be your (sponsor) until they leave the site.

At that point they can’t influence as heavily. Could be months or years just depends.
You hope the higher the person goes in the company, the more unbiased and level headed they become, sadly that is not the case with many.

So keep your heads down while you look around, have a plan B just in case.

Employees are not loosing their jobs for lack of work at plants.... they are gone to save pennies in comparison to the overstuffed SLS and above... 31 years with the company, 3 DH’s and 15 SLS to in the past 5 years- 4 DH’s, 1 excellence advisor” (made up role) and 32 SLS’s (btls, r leads) no SLS cut..... give me a break..... have to pay the dividend so make cut backs....number one is to stop the bleeding and as long as dividends are paid at an amount based on projections that are not happening and the Corp continues with the high salaries for SLS and above, they are only going to keep bleeding.... to truly get back to basics you must cut the fluff and they are NOT willing to do that ....

The Baytown site is a joke. Just people milking the mothership for all it's worth. There is so much waste and abuse that goes on there it's unbelievable. Maybe it's like that at all XOM sites, but I was shocked when I got there to say the least. The only advice I can give you is to play their game and milk the company for every undeserving penny while you can. If you don't do it someone else will, and eventually the music will end, so make sure you are in the best financial position you can.

Here is a survival tip. Quit your engineering position and apply for a wage earner process job.

Any one notice they aren’t communicating the recent spike of covid cases in the site?
During a staff meeting last week, one of us was shut down quickly by a group lead

Lie. Cheat. Steal. Backstab. Have 2 faces. Hold grudges, these are The Golden Standard of Morals at Baytown.

Kiss as much rear end as you can and just have an exit strategy ready.

#weAreExxonMobil love having planning meetings ahead of actual planning meetings for any actual meeting with actual maters at hand. It’s engrained in us, if you’ve been here for 5 years then it should be engrained in you by now too.

So take that “meeting planning before a meeting” skills and just plan for a just in case scenario.

Site Leadership knows many of need to be employed and literally get off knowing that vulnerability in people. Don’t give em that.

In spring now, Baytown s—s. Glad I’m not at that site anymore more.
Too many yokels in the front lines with no larger picture view of things and how they function.
I kept getting told “that’s how it’s always been” when I asked about processes or tried to provide efficiency.

And since they technically had a higher CL, my group lead said not to go against the grain.
Fck that backwards-a– place and management
