Thread regarding Qorvo layoffs

30% work force reduction in Qorvo

We got email today from our CEO that we are going to have layoff. My manager told me that it can be up to 30% and mostly 55+ age employees.

Hey 62 year old....tell your 2 kids going into college to take responsibility for themselves like I did and take out a student loan and make sure THEY PAY IT OFF when they start working. See, problem easily solved!

It's been 5 months, I am 62. I have 2 kids getting ready for college. Who wants to hire me? My family and I are screwed. Who cares that I have been loyal for 19 years. Terrible experience.

Looks like the big wigs finally listen to the comments in AMMA department. Things are improving now that they demoted The Ring Leader Sophia. Hopefully they will demote her brother and husband too. Thank You for listening hopefully we could move forward to work in a better environment.

Our team is vaporized!!! I am so sad, I worked with my team more than 10 years and all team members were high quality employees. They work very hard and more than 12 hours a day for the success of Qorvo.

For me Bob killed all MOTIVATION. All this nice words--->It is like advertisement.... always lies!!!!

I am from Europe and there they say: Do something for your employees and will be a friend, then you will have a good motivated employee. I think Bob and his clan should leave!

Good luck to Texas Instruments if they are trying to buy Qorvo because Qorvo's nepotism and moron management is capable of shutting down TI.

AMMA sounds like a cut-throat environment to work in. Even the supervisor are running away from this area. First it was Dave, now Patrick is running away from this wild bunch of animals. Management

can you hear me loud and clear!!! Something is wrong in AMMA!! Please send the right people in here to solve this major problem.

To the people that feel this is age discrimination, this just tells me that this is your first time going through layoffs. This is how layoffs work, it actually helps people near retirement to achieve their goal. And as for deciding who gets the VSP letter, the age+year of service=60 is a MINIMUM set by HR. Then each department looks at how many people it needs to reduce and sets their own target number to achieve their goal. This number will be different for each department, that is why some people who qualify for the minimum did not get the letter. It is not favoritism, at least not in this round. So to the people who ask me if I am taking the package then and looked shocked when I say that I did not get the letter. HOW OLD DO YOU THINK I AM?

Let's put the blame where it belongs .... AT THE TOP. If the company was being ran correctly this would not be happening.

You cannot beat skyworks or broadcom with 80% yield, 20% wafers breakage and 20+ days of cycle time.

Apopka is typical Nepotism plant, you need to know someone in order to advance, Bunch of ex. Agere employees come to work to just collect free money, No interested what so ever to be productive.

But unfortunately they will survive the VSP.

I would like to make a comment about the person who was ex-employee who got fire from AMMA. I too used to work in AMMA, and they let me go for no reason. I was still a contractor and was working very hard. They ask me to do what ever, and I would go out of my way to make sure the job was done. No matter how hard I try, it was never good enough. I guess if you don't speak Cambodia, or if you or not in Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge Regime. They will get rid out you. This area is very Corrupt.

OMG or Captain Obvious! You are a complete moron and a douchebag. How can you sit there and type this nonsense saying it is not about old people? Alot of good older people is losing there jobs. Seems like you are one of those people mention in AMMA from the comments below. Why don't you get back to Brown Nosing, and Knee pads wearing?

To OMG. really. Never said this was a age thing. The point is a person who worked for example 10 years at age 30 plus service = 40 They get a less VSP benefits vs a person who worked 1 year at age 60 = 61 gets larger benefit. This is ridiculous. There should be 1 package. And yes it is o.k. to vent here. Morgan and Morgan may know of a solution.

OMG, you guys really need to get your facts straight before venting on a public site. Don't you think that Qorvos legal team dotted their I's and crossed their T's prior to proceeding? This is not aimed at "old people", that's ridiculous. Look, no one is happy about the situation and everyone knows the CEO has run this company into the ground, but come on, some of these comments are assanine. Oh, and btw, it's AMMA, not Emma, the A being Assembly. This is a volatile situation as it is, the last thing anyone needs is misinformation being passed around.

What lawyer at Qorvo would ever dream up the idea of age plus service having a different VSP. Seems like a great setup for litigation. Why did they not just throw out 1 package? Why do they have a lesser package for potentially younger people that may havec15 years of service but does not meet the required 60 ? The package is less. I call b---s--- on this. Any lawyers reading want to ring in?

Agree with the last person post about corruption in EMMA department. I was an ex-employee who got fire from EMMA department for no reason. Management let these wild pack of animals run the area. I never seen a place where husband, wife, sister, and brother work and control an area. They would work 60-80 a week with nothing to do. While other employee would have nothing to do. This area needs some serious investigation because corruption is at it highest.

Prayers for all the older people that are getting layoff. Qorvo is not treating people fairly right now, but again some department has never been fair to employees in the past. There been so much Corruption in area like EMMA. Where management let certain individual runs the show. I bet you those same individual are not getting the same layoff treatment.

guess its time for us old people, who according to Qorvo and this VSP thing starts around 50 if we have worked there long, to get out of the way, doesnt matter if you are an expert in your field and a good employee, you are just too old..REALLY?

response to @Pf52R5W-1abe comment: I agree with you on the weeding out the bad ones. This would be a great opportunity to let go of the ones in all areas that have bad reviews, corrective actions, lots of absences, terrible work skills, etc... get Managers involved, they know more about their people than HR sitting there with piece of paper or folder they are looking at with just a our names.

Some of us have been working there 14+ years and because we are near 50 yrs old that makes us eligible. So they are going to get rid of some hard working good employees who do their jobs to help the company make money and keep the younger ones who are using the system to finish getting a degree at some level and who do not work hard anyway and some of them will graduate and move on, but they would rather disrupt a faithful employees life and job, who has given them alot of hours doing what they want, just to get rid of the older people. What criteria are they using because I know some around same age and same amount of years who should also be eligible, but they did not receive an email about it, so what is making them any different from the rest of us who have gotten the dreaded email?? And if we don't take it, does that mean we are still going to be layed off because we received the eligibility email? I pray that enough people who really want to leave the company for whatever their reasons may be, that they have enough to not have to lay off anyone. This is b.s. there is so much work going thru right now and they want to get rid of good hard working people..at least give the managers a chance to weed out their bad ones who do not do anything productive. If anyone knows can you please let us know if we will still be layed off just because our name is on a list and they sent us the email about VSP. I can't stop crying just thinking about losing my job...i love my job and my department and the people and I work hard and earn all of my money,

The memo stated that if your age + years of service >/= to 60 you are then eligible for a 1.5 weeks/year severance package. Very much seems geared towards age. Lawyers should have fun with this one. If you don't take it then you are a candidate for layoffs starting on Sept 27. You will then get 1 week per year of service. Overall a very cheap severance package.

When VSP is offered to older employees to save on insurance money and higher salaries, that is

#agediscrimination. This company has dishonored people including a family member of mine. Shame on them.

That just goes to show companies don't care. I thought that they were not supposed to discriminate against age however them giving papers to everyone over 55 shows that's a Lie.

If its VSP - this is voluntary. The company cannot lay off people based on their age, that would represent #agediscrimination

I think this is such bull s..t. It should not be based off a persons age. A lot of good workers will be laid off because of this bull.

Company cutting cost. People knew this will happen after took over. Feel sorry for all the older employee, but those are the one being targeted BC of higher pay and insurance liability. There is a time when you got to bend over and take it, and guess what the D--K get bigger.
